The Nigerian film industry is once again in mourning with the loss of director Dimeji Ajibola, known for his work on the popular series Shanty Town. He died in the early hours of November 3 after struggling with an undisclosed illness.
Ajibola was recognized as a creative visionary in the entertainment sector, skillfully merging traditional and digital art forms in innovative ways. His contributions spanned various fields, including film, animation, visual effects, virtual worlds, and interactive media.
He had a diverse educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.
Ajibola was the mastermind behind the 2012 urban musical film Hoodrush, which garnered several awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, as well as Best Actor and Best Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards.
