Queen Camilla will not participate in this weekend’s Remembrance events, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
A spokesperson announced on Saturday that due to her ongoing chest infection, Her Majesty will miss both the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening and the Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph on Sunday.
The official statement read: “Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events. Although this is a great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to resume public duties early next week.”
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Queen Camilla had to cancel all engagements shortly after returning from a busy tour of Australia and Samoa with King Charles.
At the time, a Palace spokesperson noted: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, and her doctors have recommended a short period of rest. With great regret, Her Majesty has had to withdraw from this week’s engagements but hopes to recover in time for the Remembrance events as planned. She apologizes to anyone affected by her absence.”
On Thursday, the Duchess of Gloucester represented Camilla at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also sent his well wishes, tweeting, “On behalf of the whole country, I wish Her Majesty The Queen a speedy recovery.”
