A 37-year-old man, Emmanuel Ighoruemu, has been arrested for the alleged r*pe of an 8-year-old girl in Egbo, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The shocking incident came to light when the victim’s family discovered the abuse. According to activist Kelvin Ejumudo, the suspect, who is a married father of four, confessed to the crime, admitting to multiple instances of sexual assault.
The victim’s parents, friends of the suspect, had entrusted their child to his care while they were away on a brief trip. Ighoruemu allegedly took advantage of the situation, assaulting the child in his own home and threatening her with violence if she revealed the abuse.
Medical examinations confirmed the severity of the assault, revealing injuries consistent with s*xual abuse. The suspect is currently in police custody and will face charges in court.
Ejumudo has called on community leaders to stop settling r*pe cases out of court, emphasizing the need for legal action to bring perpetrators to justice.
He also urged the Delta State government to intensify awareness campaigns and implement stricter penalties for s*xual offenders.
