Child dies after being STRUCK by falling tree branch

A child has died after being struck by a falling tree branch in Surrey, Police has said.

Emergency services rushed to  to a child struck by a falling tree branch in Grove Place near the junction with Carshalton Road, Banstead at around 4pm today.

Officers attended along with London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.

Sadly, the child, reported locally to be 12 years old, died from their injuries. 

Police have launched an investigation into the tragedy – but say they are not treating it as suspicious at this time.

Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers are in the process of ensuring that all family members have been informed.

‘The incident is not believed to be suspicious, however enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.

‘A report will be prepared for the coroner in due course.’
