The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 19-year-old Aliyu Yaro for allegedly murdering his three-day-old baby boy.
Aliyu, a resident of Kwacham ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, of killing the newborn just three days after she gave birth.
During police interrogations, the suspect confessed to the crime and led officers to the location where he had buried the infant.
He recounted that he had impregnated his girlfriend (now the complainant), and after the delivery, she repeatedly asked him to take responsibility for the baby.
On the night of the incident, Aliyu went to Safiya’s house and took the baby after instructing her to fetch water for him. He then carried the infant’s body and buried it around 9:00 p.m. in the Girpata area of Mubi.
Expressing concern over the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered the case to be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation and prosecution.
