Dynus Saxon, 20, faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and weapon possession following the death of 35-year-old Kadeem Grant.
The father of a three-year-old was discovered lifeless on Sunday afternoon in an apartment complex in the Bronx. Reports from the Daily News indicate he had a knife embedded in his chest, with cuts on his hands and feet.
Kadeem Grant’s father, Christopher Grant, explained that his son had been visiting a friend in the area, as he lived in Brooklyn. “He was just a loving kid who was there for his family and his daughter. It’s so sad that she has to grow up without a father,” he shared.
A neighbor reported hearing a brief altercation in the hallway, describing the sounds of fighting, though no words were exchanged. She called 911, but it was too late to save Grant, who was pronounced dead at the hospital around 3 p.m.
Saxon, who was hospitalized following his arrest, is said to have no recollection of the events leading up to the incident, according to his mother.
She told the Daily News that while she didn’t recognize the victim’s name, she insisted that the situation was more complex than it appeared. “Dynus didn’t just decide to murder somebody,” she said.
Saxon’s mother also emphasized that he is not typically aggressive, pointing out that her son enjoys music and skateboarding. She added that whatever transpired, it was not murder.
Saxon, who has modeled for Vogue Italia and featured in campaigns for brands like Levi’s, Calvin Klein, and JD Sports, has also attended major red-carpet events for films like Deadpool & Wolverine and The Batman.
