A woman from Harare, Melocia Gwata, has sought a protection order from the court, citing her husband George Kusotera’s excessive demands for intimacy and abusive behavior.
Gwata shared her experience at the Harare Civil Court, explaining that her husband forced her to engage in intercourse up to eight times per night and became violent when she refused.
The case was presented before Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, where Gwata described how Kusotera would wake her up in the middle of the night after multiple encounters, making daily demands that left her physically and mentally exhausted.
“He insists on intimacy every day and wakes me up repeatedly, even after we’ve already been intimate several times in one day,” she said, adding that his demands had severely impacted her well-being.
Gwata further revealed that when she could no longer meet his demands due to pain and fatigue, Kusotera would physically assault her. She also recounted instances of verbal abuse and threats of divorce, with the violence occurring in front of their children.
“He has beaten me in front of our children, insulting me and saying I don’t deserve to be their mother,” she added.
In response, Kusotera admitted to his actions, apologizing and attributing his behavior to his love for her. “I didn’t realize I was making her uncomfortable. I apologize and promise to stop the physical abuse,” he said.
After considering both sides, Magistrate Taruvinga granted Gwata a protection order, ensuring her safety from further abuse.
