Nigerians on X are coming to the defense of Libyan authorities in response to the mistreatment the Super Eagles of Nigeria faced in Libya.
The men’s national football team arrived in Libya on Sunday, October 13, with plans to travel to Benghazi. However, their flight was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abraq Airport, located two hours away from their intended destination.
The Nigerian players and their staff were confined to the airport’s arrival hall for several hours without being allowed to leave.
As several Super Eagles players took to X to express their frustration over spending more than 13 hours at the airport without food, some Nigerians took to the platform to defend the Libyan authorities, while others criticized them.
Those defending the Libyan authorities pointed out that the Libyan national football team had faced similar treatment when they were in Nigeria, and the Libyan side had promised to retaliate.
Libyans, in turn, referred to the Super Eagles’ treatment as a “tit-for-tat” response.
