During her remarks on Wednesday, October 23, outside her residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory, Harris referenced an interview with Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, who revealed to the New York Times that Trump often expressed admiration for Hitler while in office.
Kelly, who worked in the Trump administration from 2017 to 2019, stated that Trump fits the “definition of fascist” and lacks a proper understanding of American history and the Constitution.
He alleged that Trump had once remarked that “Hitler did some good things” and commended the Nazi leader for “rebuilding the economy.” Kelly also shared with The Atlantic that Trump desired his staff to emulate “German generals in World War II” due to their “total loyalty” to Hitler.
In a three-minute address to the American public, Harris emphasized, “It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler—the man responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews.”
She continued, “Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable, and in a second term, individuals like John Kelly would no longer be present to serve as guardrails against his tendencies and actions.”
Harris concluded with a stark warning: “The bottom line is this—we know what Donald Trump desires. He seeks unchecked power. The question in 13 days will be, what do the American people want?”
Her remarks came just 13 days before the election.
