A mystery buyer has gone viral after reportedly spending $4,000 on a signed Taylor Swift guitar at a charity auction in Texas, only to immediately smash it with a hammer.
The unidentified, white-haired man destroyed the instrument, once owned by the “Shake It Off” singer, during the Ellis County WildGame Dinner in Waxahachie, near Dallas, over the weekend, according to footage shared on social media.
The video shows the man smiling as he made his way to the stage, where he was handed a hammer and the guitar. After agreeing to buy it, he repeatedly struck the instrument while the crowd cheered. Although he teased smashing it on the ground, he ultimately walked off with it instead.
Event organizers had advertised the autographed guitar as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” ahead of the auction. The video does not reveal the man’s motivations for his actions, but some speculate it could be politically motivated following Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.
Last week, former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, saying, “I hate Taylor Swift!”
