An intoxicated father from Ohio reportedly attempted to teach his 9-year-old son how to drive, leading to a shocking incident captured on video where he was nearly run over and dragged under the vehicle.
Clejuan Williams, 36, was allegedly under the influence when he tried to show his son how to back out of their driveway in Toledo on Sunday, October 6, according to police and footage obtained by WTVG.
Williams instructed the boy to tap the brakes but confused about which pedal to press, his son inadvertently hit the gas, causing the car to lurch backward and crash into a pole across the street, police said.
The video shows Williams standing on the driver’s side with the door open before he gets knocked down and dragged beneath the car as it accelerates.
Two children can be seen fleeing the vehicle—one from the driver’s seat and the other from the back—rushing to assist him on the ground while others watch from the street.
Williams was taken to a local hospital, though his condition remains unknown. He faces charges of wrongful entrustment of a motor vehicle and endangering children.
Fortunately, none of the children were harmed, according to police.
“It is heartbreaking to see because as a parent, when you witness something like this, you reflect on how it could have been prevented,” Toledo Police Officer Prince Flores told WTVG. “As a parent, your responsibility is to ensure your kids’ safety and make sound decisions, putting them in the best possible circumstances to be okay.”
