The Nigerian Police Force has arraigned House of Representatives member Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh in court following a video showing him assaulting a Bolt driver at his residence in Abuja.

Representing the Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, Ikwechegh appeared before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje on October 30.

He was prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit, facing charges of abuse of office, assault, and threat to life.

Ikwechegh pleaded not guilty, and the presiding judge, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, granted him bail set at N500,000. The case has been adjourned until November 8.

Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the proceedings on X, stating, “RULE OF LAW: POLICE PROSECUTES HON ALEXANDER IKWEGH FOR ASSAULT.. Details soon.”

This follows an incident in which Ikwechegh was filmed berating and slapping Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya for not leaving his vehicle to deliver a package directly to him. In response to public backlash, Ikwechegh has issued a public apology.
