United Nations – ‘No Food Has Entered Northern Gaza Since The Beginning Of October’

According to the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) on Friday, October 11, no food has entered northern Gaza since the beginning of October, putting one million people at risk of severe hunger.

Around 700 aid trucks entered northern Gaza in August, followed by only 400 in September, after commercial operations were halted at the Allenby Crossing between the West Bank and Jordan. However, no food trucks have entered the area since October began.

Earlier this week, the WFP reported that aid deliveries to Gaza have hit their lowest levels in months, forcing the organization to suspend food parcel distribution in October.

“Hunger remains widespread, and famine is a growing threat. Without the resumption of aid, one million people in need will lose their vital lifeline,” the WFP warned.

Additionally, two major bakeries in central Gaza, Al-Banna Bakery and Zadna Bakery in Deir al-Balah, have been closed for three days due to a shortage of flour and fuel, according to bakery workers. Ahmad Abed, an employee at Al-Banna Bakery, described the dire situation: “When I work, I can feed my family. When I don’t, we go hungry.”

Bread, the primary staple food for Palestinians, has become even more essential since the war began over a year ago.

The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted earlier that September saw the lowest levels of commercial and humanitarian supplies entering Gaza since at least March 2024.

Israel launched a new ground operation in northern Gaza on October 6, in response to signs of Hamas rebuilding its infrastructure.
