The incident occurred on Sunday, October 27, at Kyobugombe Trading Centre in Kaharo Sub County, Kabale district, after Liverpool and Arsenal drew 2-2.
According to reports from TV47.digital, Manchester United fan Benjamin Okello cheered when Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored a late goal. During his celebration, Okello threw popcorn at an Arsenal supporter, which led to a heated exchange.
The confrontation escalated, and after the match, the Arsenal fan allegedly struck Okello with a stick, causing injuries that led to his death.
Kaharo Sub County Chairperson confirmed the event, saying, “Two men fought Sunday night in Kyobugombe, and one was taken to Bukinda Health Centre before being transferred to Rugarama Regional Referral Hospital, where he died.”
He added that the fight started in a video hall where fans had gathered to watch the match. When Salah scored Liverpool’s equalizer, Okello celebrated enthusiastically, which angered the Arsenal fan.
The Arsenal fan, reportedly known as Onan, hit Okello with a stick, causing him to fall.
