Sergeant Alfred Malemela was denied bail by the Mankweng Magistrates Court in Limpopo on Friday, and he is scheduled to appear in court again on December 12, 2024.

The incident occurred on September 27, 2024, when Malemela allegedly shot 38-year-old Victoria Ramaphoko outside the Mankweng Magistrates Court following a Heritage Day celebration.

According to Phaladi Shuping, spokesperson for the Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Malemela initially visited the court that morning while Ramaphoko and her colleagues were celebrating Heritage Day.

“There was an argument between Sergeant Malemela and Ramaphoko, after which he left the court building. Later that afternoon, he returned armed with a firearm, confronted Ramaphoko at the gate, and allegedly shot her seven times,” Shuping reported.

Ramaphoko was quickly taken to the hospital and survived the attack. The incident was reported to the IPID, leading to Malemela’s arrest.

He faces charges of attempted murder and violating a protection order that Ramaphoko had obtained against him.
