Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Camilla will wear a tiara for an upcoming event when she and King Charles host the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Emir, along with his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, will visit the UK from December 3 to 4 as part of a state visit following an invitation extended by the monarch.
It is expected that the King and Queen will host a State Banquet for their guests, similar to the one held earlier this year for the Japanese Emperor and Empress.
Tiaras are typically worn during state banquets, the Queen’s annual Diplomatic Corps reception, and the State Opening of Parliament, as explained by royal expert Danielle Stacey.
Details regarding the Emir’s full itinerary will be announced in due course. The Emir and Sheikha Jawaher have made eight visits to the UK since his reign began in 2013. The couple’s most recent visit was for the King’s coronation last year.
King Charles, during his time as Prince of Wales, visited Qatar eight times, with Camilla accompanying him on two occasions, in 2007 and 2013.
Camilla last wore a tiara during the State Banquet for Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako’s visit in June.
At the event, she dazzled in a cream silk crepe embroidered dress by Fiona Clare and the Burmese ruby and diamond tiara, along with the King’s family order—a tradition dating back to King George IV, where female royals wear a portrait of the monarch.
It is unclear whether the Princess of Wales will attend the event and wear her own tiara. Kate has been on a lighter schedule since announcing the completion of her chemotherapy treatments in a video update on September 9.
She is reportedly hoping to join the royal family at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday next month.
