Prince William recently mentioned his brother, Prince Harry, marking what is believed to be the first public reference since their estrangement.
In his new documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, the Prince of Wales shared a childhood memory involving Harry and their late mother, Princess Diana, during a visit to The Passage homelessness charity.
Reflecting on that visit more than 30 years ago, William recalled, “My mother took me to The Passage. She took Harry and me both there. I must have been about 11, maybe 10. I’d never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit anxious about what to expect.”
He continued, “My mother, as usual, was making everyone feel relaxed, laughing and joking. I remember thinking, ‘Well, if everyone’s not got a home, they’re all going to be really sad.’ But it was incredible how happy the environment was.”
William went on to share how that experience gave him a new perspective: “When you’re young, you just think life is what you see in front of you. Meeting people who shared their stories, like, ‘I was living on the street last night,’ was eye-opening.”
Tensions between Harry and William became public in 2019 when Harry, in Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, mentioned that while they had their ups and downs, the rumors of major disputes were mostly overblown.
“We are certainly on different paths at the moment,” Harry explained, “but I will always be there for him as I know he will always be there for me.”
Since stepping down as a senior royal in 2020, Harry has discussed his family relationships, including his strained bond with William and his father, King Charles.
Although William has not publicly responded to claims made in Harry’s memoir, Spare, the brothers were last seen together at King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation in May 2023, with a private reunion occurring later at their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ funeral in August.
