President Joe Biden has stated that he wants Donald Trump locked up 14 days before the presidential election.
Speaking to New Hampshire Democrats on the night of October 22, Biden remarked, “We gotta lock him up,” referring to former President Trump, but quickly clarified, “Politically lock him up.”
Biden was discussing some of Trump’s proposals for a second term when he added, “I know this sounds bizarre – it sounds like if I said this five years ago, you’d lock me up. We gotta lock him up.”
During Trump’s 2016 campaign, supporters would chant “Lock her up” in reference to then-challenger Hillary Clinton. Trump has previously denied instigating those chants, telling Fox News in June, “Hillary Clinton, I didn’t say ‘lock her up,’ but the people would all say ‘lock her up, lock her up.’”
According to the New York Post, a source close to Biden clarified that his follow-up comment meant he did not intend to call for Trump’s actual incarceration.
The Trump campaign responded to Biden’s remarks, urging Vice President Kamala Harris to condemn them.
“Joe Biden just admitted the truth: he and Kamala’s plan all along has been to politically persecute their opponent President Trump because they can’t beat him fair and square.
“The Harris-Biden Admin is the real threat to democracy. We call on Kamala Harris to condemn Joe Biden’s disgraceful remark,” said Trump Campaign Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
