A 30-year-old mother has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for allegedly assaulting her 10-month-old daughter with a large stick in an attempt to force her to crawl.
The arrest occurred on Friday in Temberere Village, Zimunya, Mutare, after a shocking video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
In a statement, the ZRP confirmed the arrest, stating: “The ZRP confirms the arrest of a 30-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting her 10-month-old baby with a stick at Temberere Village, Zimunya, Mutare, on 11th October 2024.”

The police further revealed that the video, which showed the woman harshly beating the child while instructing her to remain quiet and crawl, prompted widespread outrage.
Child protection agencies have been notified and are expected to step in to provide support and necessary intervention for the child.
