She reminisces about their encounter at a Fashion Week party in 1998, where she was with a friend while Donald was accompanied by another “attractive blonde” woman.
“I saw my friend wave at someone behind me. When I turned around, I noticed a man and an attractive blonde woman approaching us,” she wrote.
When Donald reached her table, he introduced himself, saying, “Hi. I’m Donald Trump,” to which she replied, “Nice to meet you.” Although she recognized his name, Melania admitted she didn’t know much about him, stating, “I knew he was a businessman or celebrity, but not much else.”
Their interaction, although brief, was significant.
“His eyes filled with curiosity and interest, and, seizing the opportunity, he took the seat next to mine and started a conversation,” she wrote.
Trump inquired about her life in New York, her Slovenian roots, and her travels, engaging her in a discussion that left a lasting impression on her.
Even though he was on a date at the time, Melania noted, “From the moment our conversation began, I was captivated by his charm and easygoing nature. There was so much bustling activity around us, but his focused attention on me made me feel like the center of his world.”
When his date stepped away for a moment, Donald asked for Melania’s phone number.
Instead of providing hers, she told him, “‘Give me your number,’ I said.”
“I’ll give you my number,’ he replied, ‘if you promise to call me,'” she recounted.
With a gesture, Donald called over his bodyguard and discreetly wrote a note on a sleek business card before handing it to her.
The couple began dating on and off before marrying in 2005 and welcoming their son, Barron, in 2006.
In her memoir, Melania shares that they frequently visited the theater and enjoyed outings to baseball, football, and boxing events together.
