Melania Trump has clarified the reason behind swatting her husband Donald Trump’s hand away during a red-carpet event, downplaying it as “a minor, innocent gesture” after the media frenzy it sparked.
The incident occurred in May 2017 at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport during a walk with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara.
A video captured Melania brushing off Trump’s hand, which fueled widespread speculation in the media.
As Donald Trump campaigns for the presidency once again, Melania has finally addressed the moment.
She explained that the red carpet simply wasn’t wide enough for all four individuals to walk side by side.
“The red carpet could not fit all four of us abreast,” she writes in an excerpt from her upcoming memoir Melania, obtained by The New York Times. “It was a minor, innocent gesture, nothing more.”
Melania’s memoir, Melania, is set for release on October 8.
