The tragic death of British singer Liam Payne, who fell from the balcony of a luxury hotel in Buenos Aires, is being treated as an ‘inconclusive death.’
The 31-year-old was found dead after falling from the third-floor balcony of his suite at the Casa Sur Hotel in Argentina’s capital last Wednesday. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Payne died from multiple injuries sustained in the fall. However, Prosecutor Marcelo Roma has called for histopathological, biochemical, and toxicological tests to determine if the singer was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his death.
The results of these tests are expected in 10 to 15 days, and until then, his death is being classified as inconclusive by Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office.
Liam’s father, Geoff, has traveled to Argentina to identify the body and make arrangements for its return to the UK, with a funeral expected to be held in November.
This comes after reports that Liam had been quietly dropped by his record label, Universal Music, due to concerns over the type of music he wanted to create. Sources claim the label feared that the music Liam was passionate about wouldn’t resonate with his One Direction fanbase.
The singer had reportedly put his second album on hold, and executives feared the style of music he wanted to pursue would alienate his fanbase.
Industry insiders claimed that part of the decision to part ways with Liam was driven by the negative online attention he had been receiving, including memes and jokes. Universal Music, facing budget cuts, decided to invest in other artists instead.
