Princess Diana’s stepmother, Raine Spencer, sold her former glamorous home in Mayfair, 24 Farm Street, for the first time in 22 years for £10.95 million.
The expansive five-floor property, listed with luxury estate agents Wetherell and Chestertons, features charming British-inspired interiors and abundant outdoor spaces, including a roof terrace and two patios.
Purchased by Diana’s father, John ‘Johnnie’ Spencer, the eighth Earl Spencer, in 1990, the home was a gift to his wife following her stroke. It played a key role in a 2022 biography of Raine Spencer, Three Times a Countess by Tina Gaudoin.
Johnnie favored the first-floor library, while Raine enjoyed hosting guests in the ground-floor dining room, which retains the vivid red decor similar to that of Althorp House, the Spencer family estate. After Johnnie’s death in 1992, Raine became the sole owner of the property.
Following her divorce, Diana often visited the home, spending hours alone in her father’s library. Raine was also there when she received the tragic news of Diana’s car accident in Paris. For the past 22 years, the property was owned by art collectors Alan and Mary Hobart, who used it as a private art gallery.
The sale of the house coincided with Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, confirming his new relationship with historian Cat Jarman, just months after his 13-year marriage to Countess Karen Spencer ended.
It was recently revealed that Cat is suing Karen for “misuse of private information,” with legal proceedings still underway. Cat is being represented by Simons Muirhead Burton, while Karen is said to be handling her own defense.
