Lagos State: Police Detained Man For Apparently Piercing His Newlywed Wife To Death

The Lagos State police have arrested a 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, for allegedly stabbing his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, October 4.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Motunrayo reportedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife multiple times during a dispute, locked her in their room, and set it on fire. After the attack, he also inflicted injuries on himself.

The statement reads in part: “A distress call was received on October 4 by the Ikorodu Division reporting that a newlywed couple, Motunrayo Olaniyi (30) and his wife Olajumoke (25), were involved in a domestic altercation in their room at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu. During the dispute, the husband allegedly stabbed his wife to death, locked her inside the room, and set it ablaze, while also wounding himself.

Police officers from Ikorodu Division responded to the call, extinguished the fire, and discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with stab wounds to her abdomen.”

Hundeyin further stated that Olaniyi was rescued, treated at a nearby hospital, and later taken into custody.

A preliminary investigation confirmed that the suspect stabbed his wife during the altercation and caused minor injuries to himself. The body has been taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and further investigation is ongoing.
