Duchess Sophie, the loving mother of Lady Louise Windsor, gifted her daughter a stunning heart-shaped locket steeped in royal family tradition. The elegant piece, made of sterling silver and 9-carat rose gold, is called the ‘Fairy Locket’ and was crafted by Welsh jewellers Clogau.
Lady Louise has been seen wearing the locket during significant royal events, including the Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Philip and at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Originally a gift to Duchess Sophie, the locket holds a deeper connection to the royal family’s tradition of Welsh jewellery, which dates back to the Queen Mother, whose wedding ring was made from Welsh gold. Since then, wedding rings for Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, Princess Diana, Queen Camilla, Princess Catherine, and Meghan Markle have all been crafted from pure Welsh gold.
Ben Roberts, Managing Director of Clogau, expressed his delight at seeing Lady Louise wear the locket frequently.
“It’s amazing to think that a piece we created resonates with her so much that she chooses to wear it repeatedly,” he said. “Seeing that connection with the younger generation of the Royal Family makes all our hard work worthwhile, knowing our jewellery has become a cherished part of their lives.”
Lady Louise, who often draws inspiration from her mother’s fashion sense, has been spotted wearing similar styles and borrowing items from Duchess Sophie’s wardrobe.
Notably, for Prince Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, Louise wore a designer gown that previously belonged to her mother. The dress, called ‘Parfum Gray’ by fashion house Alaïa, featured a fitted bodice and puff skirt. Duchess Sophie had first worn it during Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday celebrations in 2016.
In addition, Louise borrowed her mother’s Noble MacMillan plum tassel pouch for the same wedding. The chic calfskin clutch, lined in silk and adorned with a detachable tassel, has been one of Duchess Sophie’s favorites for years.
