Kylian Mbappe, the French and Real Madrid superstar, has been accused of r*pe and s*xual harassment at a hotel in Sweden. This follows a recent denial from the footballer, who had previously dismissed a report of an alleged rape at the hotel where he was staying with friends last week as ‘fake news.’
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, the police are now investigating Mbappe after accusations were made against him.
Mbappe had visited Sweden with friends last Wednesday, staying at the Bank Hotel in central Stockholm. The group left the country on Friday. The alleged incident is said to have occurred on Thursday night. Earlier in the evening, Mbappe had dined at the Chez Jolie restaurant, later visiting the V nightclub before returning to his hotel in a black van with his entourage.
After reading a news article about the alleged incident, Mbappe took to X (formerly Twitter) to dismiss the claims, writing, “Fake News! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing, as if by chance.”
Expressen reported that a formal complaint was lodged with the police two days later. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet further revealed that authorities are investigating a rape that allegedly took place at the Bank Hotel on Thursday night. Forensic units and investigators were reported to have visited the crime scene on Monday.
The alarm was reportedly raised when the woman sought medical attention at a local hospital following the alleged assault.
Mbappe left Sweden via Bromma airport on Friday in a private jet.
The prosecutor handling the investigation declined to comment, stating, “I will not say anything about this.”
In a similar vein, Stockholm police spokeswoman Carina Skagerlind told MailOnline that the police could neither confirm nor deny the case.
As of now, no suspects have been publicly named.
