A report revealed that Prosecutor Karim Khan allegedly pressured a female aide into an unwanted relationship, attempting to coerce her and engaging in inappropriate physical contact.
Khan has denied these allegations, attributing them to a possible Israeli intelligence smear campaign, according to ICC officials. The allegations, reported by two ICC employees, reached the court’s independent watchdog in early May.
Following a five-day inquiry, the investigation was closed when the woman chose not to file a formal complaint, leaving Khan unexamined.
Documents reveal that Khan transferred the woman to his office, giving her a raise, and engaged in alleged inappropriate behavior, including physical advances and persistent requests for private travel together.
On one occasion, Khan reportedly knocked on her hotel room door in the early hours, and on another, locked his office door, attempting physical contact.
The alleged victim’s hesitation to pursue formal charges reportedly stems from distrust in the court’s internal oversight, leading her to request an external investigation from the ICC’s member states.
Her confidantes described the prosecutor’s behavior as a “repeated pattern,” expressing hope for an impartial probe.
