In a distressing case from Bulawayo, a man named John Magu appeared in court for severely assaulting his wife, Melody Magagula, after she caught him in the middle of an affair with his mistress.
The violent confrontation resulted in serious injuries for Magagula and tragically led to a miscarriage.
The incident occurred when Magagula discovered her husband at his mistress’ home. Upon confronting him, Magu became aggressive and attacked her.
“I rushed there and found my husband with his girlfriend. When I questioned him, he became violent and brutally beat me,” Magagula recounted in court.
Following the assault, both Magu and Magagula applied for protection orders to prevent further abuse. Despite his infidelity, Magagula revealed that her husband often accuses her of being unfaithful.
In his defense, Magu denied the assault, claiming his wife is often violent and disrespectful. Despite their ongoing issues, Magu expressed his desire to reconcile with his wife.
Magistrate Challenge Mahembe granted both parties five-year protection orders. Magu is barred from physically or verbally abusing his wife, while Magagula is prohibited from emotionally or physically assaulting her husband.
