The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing rockets at the northern Israeli city of Haifa on Tuesday, October 8, marking the second consecutive day of attacks after Haifa was struck for the first time in 18 years on Monday, October 7.
Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, said it had launched a “large rocket salvo” targeting Haifa and its surrounding northern suburbs.
The Israeli military confirmed that over 100 rockets had crossed into Israeli territory from Lebanon on Tuesday, with some being intercepted.
This escalation follows Israel’s expansion of its ground invasion into Lebanon. Previously focused on the eastern border, Israeli ground operations in southwest Lebanon began on September 30, with the military stating it is targeting Hezbollah positions.
Since Hezbollah started firing at Israel a year ago in support of Hamas, approximately 2,000 Lebanese have been killed in the ongoing conflict.
