Gerard Piqué Accuses Shakira of Not Being Completely Honest About Their Break-Up, Claims He’s ‘Very Happy’ with His 12-Year-Younger Girlfriend

Former Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué has accused Shakira of not being entirely truthful regarding their break-up. The Colombian singer, 47, announced their split in June 2022 amid allegations of infidelity after 11 years together and the birth of two children.

Since their separation, Shakira has directed several lyrical criticisms at Piqué in her music. Piqué, 37, who is now in a relationship with 25-year-old Clara Chía Marti, stated that he is “very happy.” Shakira has also taken jabs at Piqué’s new girlfriend.

“In the end, the truth or what happens is not conveyed as it really was. I cannot control that,” Piqué told CNN, according to AS. “The best part is that I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family, and my friends—people who truly know me. That gives me a lot of peace of mind.”

He added, “I am very happy, enjoying life, and I feel privileged. The life I’ve led, playing for the club of my life for over twenty years, having wonderful children, an incredible family, and lifelong friends from school—all of that is fantastic.”

Piqué and Shakira share two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, nine. In 2022, Spanish outlet El Periódico reported that the couple had begun living apart after Piqué was reportedly asked to leave the family home by the pop star.

One theory suggested that Shakira discovered Piqué’s alleged infidelity by noticing that a jar of strawberry jam, which she was known to be the only one who ate, had been emptied while she was away. However, Shakira later dismissed this theory.

In the summer of 2023, Piqué reportedly moved in with Clara Chía at the home he had previously shared with Shakira when she first arrived in Barcelona. Footage surfaced in January 2023, purportedly showing Piqué’s new girlfriend in his family home before his split from Shakira.

Shakira was said to be “devastated” by the footage, recorded in August 2021—ten months before she publicly announced their separation after 11 years together.
