A Texas father has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder and s*xual assault of his 8-month-old daughter in 2020, authorities report.
Luis Luna, 27, from Houston, was found guilty of capital murder following a 10-day trial regarding the death of his daughter, Savayah Mason, as stated in a press release from the Harris County Attorney’s Office on Friday, October 4.
On August 24, 2020, deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report at Luna’s apartment indicating that the infant had stopped breathing. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, the baby remained unresponsive and was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Assistant District Attorney Edward A. Appelbaum, who prosecuted the case alongside Assistant District Attorney Sara Delgado, called the crime “one of the most horrific acts of violence imaginable,” adding “it’s the worst kind of evil in the world,” according to the release.
“This baby couldn’t walk or talk, and she should have been with someone who kept her safe, but instead he abused that trust,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said.
