Ex-Employee Files Lawsuit Against Kanye West Over Unpaid Salary

American rapper Kanye West is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with a former employee. The 47-year-old father of four is being sued by security guard Jonathan Monroe, who claims he was fired by West after requesting payment.

According to court documents, West had agreed in August 2021 to pay Monroe $30 per hour for providing security at a Malibu, California home that West was renovating following his separation from Kim Kardashian.

Monroe alleges he worked between 36 and 50 hours each week during his employment with Kanye, whose career has seen a significant decline since 2022.

He testified in court that he never received any payment, and in October 2021, he was allegedly dismissed after raising concerns about the lack of compensation.

The lawsuit claims unpaid wages, interest on the owed amount, and punitive damages, three years after his short-term employment with West.

In July, West sold his Malibu mansion, significantly reducing the asking price by $14 million. The final sale price was reported to be around $21 million, according to TMZ. West had purchased the property in 2021, which was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

Records obtained by TMZ indicate that West’s mansion went into escrow in July. Originally listed for $53 million, the property, featuring four bedrooms and five bathrooms, had its price drastically cut to $39 million in April of this year.

Although West began construction work on the 4,000-square-foot home overlooking the Pacific Ocean, he did not complete the project.
