Maye Musk, mother of billionaire Elon Musk, has come under fire for allegedly encouraging voter fraud on her son’s social media platform, X, which flagged her post as “illegal.”
The 76-year-old made the controversial remarks in response to a post from her son urging followers to get their friends and family to register to vote. Maye Musk told her 1.1 million followers, “The Democrats have given us another option. You don’t have to register to vote.”
She then added, “On Election Day, use 10 fake names, visit 10 polling booths, and vote 10 times. That’s 100 votes, and it’s not illegal. Maybe we should work the system too.”
The post, viewed over 6.6 million times by Monday morning, was quickly flagged by X. A community note attached to her post clarified, “This is, in fact, illegal,” with a link to the US Code, which clearly prohibits voting more than once intentionally under federal law.
Numerous social media users, including lawyers, condemned the post. One lawyer asked, “That is illegal. Do you have any credible evidence Democrats are doing this?” Another lawyer stated, “This tweet constitutes the solicitation of a crime and is a completed criminal act. If someone acts on it, you could be charged with conspiracy. Retract it immediately.”
One user tagged the FBI, writing, “Hey @FBI, this looks like a crime in progress.”
