British Doctor Warns Excessive M*sturbation Linked To Rising Male Health Issues

A British doctor has raised concerns that excessive m*sturbation  is contributing to an increase in male health problems.

While moderate self-pleasure can help reduce stress and enhance sleep quality and mood, it can also develop into “an unhealthy habit” that may lead to a type of erectile dysfunction, according to Dr. Donald Grant, a GP and senior clinical advisor at The Independent Pharmacy.

“There’s no definitive guideline on how often people should masturbate,” he stated. “However, when it becomes excessive, it can negatively affect both s*xual and physical health.”

One major concern is the rise in pornography consumption: a recent survey by media watchdog Ofcom revealed that half of UK adults access explicit material online. Dr. Grant connects this trend to an increase in porn-induced erectile dysfunction (PIED).

According to the British Association of Urological Surgeons, up to 50% of adult men experience some form of erectile dysfunction. This condition is often linked to obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, but it can also occur without an obvious cause.

Dr. Grant suggests that PIED could be a lesser-known factor. “PIED is a type of erectile dysfunction resulting from unhealthy pornography consumption. This problematic use can lead to desensitization, making it harder for men to achieve and maintain an erection, as they become accustomed to the more intense s*xual scenarios depicted onscreen.”

He also notes that it can diminish interest in s*x with actual partners, as men may prioritize pornography and masturbation instead.

Dr. Grant further warns that compulsive m*sturbation  could lead to physical changes that affect intimacy. “Compulsive m*sturbation  can reduce sensitivity in the genital area, making s*xual pleasure or stimulation more difficult to achieve. This can happen when nerve endings become damaged due to excessive activity, resulting in a loss of sensitivity. Rough m*sturbation  can also lead to friction injuries.”

Fortunately, he points out that this is often a temporary issue, and taking breaks or using lubricants can help restore sensitivity. Additionally, various treatments are available for men experiencing erectile dysfunction, allowing them to maintain a healthy s*x life.

Dr. Grant emphasized that “over-masturbating” can have other detrimental effects as well.

“It can cause both men and women to become overly focused on their own pleasure, leading to performance anxiety during s*xual intercourse with a partner, which can negatively impact libido.”

He acknowledged that determining how much is too much is subjective, as m*sturbation  habits can vary widely, with some individuals doing it daily, weekly, or not at all.

“It’s essential to monitor s*xual activity to ensure it doesn’t interfere with social lives, work, or relationships. Discomfort or injury can often signal that m*sturbation  habits are becoming excessive and harmful.”

Maintaining a healthy and sensible s*x life through m*sturbation  is crucial, ensuring it does not come at the expense of daily activities.

Dr. Grant noted that some individuals may experience mental distress due to feelings of guilt or shame related to their m*sturbation  habits, often stemming from pornography use or other factors, which can significantly affect mental well-being.

“In summary, common sense is necessary to ensure that m*sturbation  remains a recreational activity that doesn’t disrupt other aspects of daily life.”
