Bill Gates, one of the wealthiest individuals globally, has reportedly contributed $50 million to a nonprofit organization backing Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The New York Times states that the donation was meant to remain private, as Gates has not publicly endorsed Harris, who is competing against Republican Donald Trump in the upcoming November 5 election.
The funds were directed to Future Forward’s nonprofit arm, Future Forward USA Action, which operates as a “dark money” group and does not disclose its donors. This means that Gates’ contribution will not appear on any public records.
In a statement regarding the NYT report, Gates emphasized his dedication to bipartisanship, stating, “This election is different. I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty, and fighting climate change both in the U.S. and globally.”
Gates’ ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, has publicly endorsed Harris, joining over 81 other billionaires who are backing her campaign against Trump.
