To mark the conclusion of Baby Loss Awareness Week, the Princess of Wales has shared a poignant message on her social media channels.
Posting an image of a candle, she wrote: “Baby Loss Awareness Week is a vital time to offer support to those who have faced the heartbreak of baby loss. Sending love, strength, and hope to all those affected. #WaveofLight C.”
Her message coincided with the “Wave of Light,” a global event held at the close of Baby Loss Awareness Week, where people light candles in remembrance of lost pregnancies and babies.
Princess Kate regularly shares an annual message for this emotional occasion.
Last year, she and Prince William shared: “Taking a moment this #BabyLossAwarenessWeek to think about all those who’ve been affected by pregnancy and baby loss. In this thread, you’ll find organisations and resources offering support and advice to families and loved ones who need it most.”
They provided contact information for Child Bereavement UK, adding: “Child Bereavement UK @cbukhelp offers a helpline for those affected by child bereavement. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you or someone you know could benefit from their support.”
The post also featured links to the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, Sands UK, and Tommy’s, a charity supporting bereaved families.
Several members of the royal family have publicly discussed their own experiences with baby loss, including the Duchess of Edinburgh, who suffered an ectopic pregnancy in 2001.
At the time, Prince Edward expressed the pain of the experience, saying, “It’s obviously a very traumatic time and my wife has… It’s the most painful thing anyone can undergo.”
He went on to thank the medical team for their swift and professional response, adding, “As the pain reduces, so the relief will increase.”
