British actress Sophie Turner has opened up about the primary reason she left the US amid her divorce from ex-husband Joe Jonas.
In a candid interview for the December and January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the Game of Thrones star, 28, provided a rare glimpse into her tumultuous year.
Sophie is set to receive the prestigious Performance Award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2024, and she finalized her divorce from Joe, 35, in September, a year after he filed for separation. The couple married in 2019.
Before their marriage ended, Sophie and Joe had been living in America with their two daughters, but she was eager to return to the UK.
Reflecting on her homesickness, the Joan star said, “Whenever we traveled to a new city, the first thing I’d do was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s worth of chocolate.”
Sophie cited gun violence and legislative changes in the US as significant factors motivating her decision to move back home. She explained, “The gun violence, the overturning of Roe v. Wade… Everything just piled on.”
Since relocating to the UK, Sophie has begun a new relationship with aristocrat Peregrine Pearson.
Regarding her return, she expressed, “I’m so happy to be back. It felt like my life was on pause until I returned to England. I just never feel like myself when I’m not in London, surrounded by my friends and family. I had been away for six years, and during that time, my friends were getting engaged and I was pregnant.
“I had dinner with someone recently who said, ‘I never got to touch your belly.’ We missed those key experiences together.”
