Actress Sophie Turner has opened up about the challenges of being a single mother following her divorce from singer Joe Jonas.
The Game of Thrones star, 28, made these comments during a recent interview ahead of the premiere of her new six-part crime series Joan, in which she portrays the real-life figure Joan ‘The Godmother’ Hannington.
Earlier this month, Sophie and her estranged husband Joe, 35, from the Jonas Brothers, finalized their year-long divorce. The process was prolonged due to intense disputes over custody arrangements for their two daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, two.
Reflecting on her role as Joan, Sophie told The Sunday Times Culture Magazine, “Joan changed me a lot.
From utter desperation comes a great deal of will and ambition. The series came at a pivotal time in my life when I needed to be ambitious and fight against the odds. She provided me with a lot of strength.”
Sophie continued, “If I hadn’t become a mother, I’m not sure I would have been able to bring the same energy to this role. It’s truly a struggle being a single mother.”
Turner and Jonas, who share two daughters, married in May 2019 in Las Vegas shortly after the Billboard Music Awards.
After four years of marriage and the birth of their children, Jonas filed for divorce on September 5, 2023, citing that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” in documents obtained by the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, Sophie has recently made her relationship with aristocrat Peregrine Pearson official on Instagram.
