Unknown attackers have beheaded a couple, Mr. Jacob Udo and Mrs. Comfort Udo, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The couple, both traders, were brutally murdered in their home in Etiti Ulo, Bende, on the night of Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Confirming the incident in a statement titled “Re: The Alleged Murder of a Couple in Bende,” the spokesperson for the State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said, “Yes, we received the report yesterday at Bende Divisional Headquarters. The crime scene has been examined, evidence collected, and the bodies taken to the mortuary. An investigation is ongoing.”
Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and representative of Bende Federal Constituency, condemned the horrific act in a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu. Kalu expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, calling the killings “horrific and senseless.”
“The brutal murder of Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife is an attack on humanity. No grievance or dispute can justify such violence,” Kalu said.
He called on authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and emphasized the need for unity in the face of violence and extremism. “We must all stand together against acts of violence while promoting tolerance and peaceful conflict resolution.”
Kalu also urged caution, adding, “While we understand the pain and emotions surrounding this tragedy, we must avoid actions that could escalate tensions. Violence will only lead to further division and suffering.”
