A Mexican City Mayor’s Head Cut Off And Placed In His Car Less Than A Week After Taking Office

Mexican mayor Alejandro Arcos, 43, was found decapitated, with his head placed on top of his pickup truck, six days after taking office in the city of Chilpancingo. His death was confirmed by the state prosecutors’ office, which is currently investigating the case.

Alejandro Moreno, national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, has urged federal authorities to take over the investigation due to Guerrero’s state of “ungovernability.” He noted that Arcos’s murder occurred just three days after the shooting of Francisco Tapia, the city government’s new secretary.

“They had been in office less than a week,” Moreno remarked. “They were young and honest public servants committed to progress for their community.”

Chilpancingo has long been plagued by violent turf wars between local drug gangs, the Ardillos and the Tlacos.

The Ardillos gang has been notorious for extreme violence, including a demonstration where they hijacked an armored government vehicle and took ten police officers hostage following the arrest of their leaders for drug and weapon offenses.

In the days leading up to his death, Arcos had focused on disaster relief efforts after Hurricane John caused significant flooding in Acapulco and nearby towns.

He was actively meeting with relief workers and residents just hours before his tragic demise, as shown in photos shared on his Facebook account.
