Three schoolgirls suffer serious injuries as car CRASHES into them before driving off

Three teenage schoolgirls have suffered serious leg injuries in a hit-and-run after a speeding car mounted a pavement.

Police are hunting for the driver of the vehicle, a VW Golf, after the incident in Heaton Moor, Stockport, on Tuesday.

All three girls were rushed to hospital needing surgery to their legs.

POLICE STATEMENT

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Paul said: ‘The victims were just walking on the pavement when a car mounted the pavement and collided with them causing them serious injuries before driving off, leaving the girls injured by the road.

‘There were a number of people at the scene walking past, and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have dash cam footage.’

He also appealed for anyone with CCTV or Ring doorbell footage showing a silver VW Golf car with a broken windscreen driving in the area shortly before or after the incident at 4.30pm.

Police say initial enquiries suggest that the car was travelling ‘at speed’ behind the teens and swerved on to the pavement to avoid an oncoming car.

It ploughed into the girls’ legs before speeding off, leaving them injured at the roadside.

The incident happened in the narrow residential street of Whitelow Road. It is believed the girls were on their way home from school at the time.

All three suffered serious injuries to their legs which will require surgery, the police said.
