The mother of the teenager accused of a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia had called the school with a warning before the incident, according to the suspect’s aunt and grandfather.

Colt Gray, 14, sent a troubling text to his mother, Marcee Gray, early on the morning of the shooting, saying, “I’m sorry, mom.” This prompted Marcee Gray to contact the school, her father, Charles Polhamus, told the New York Post.

Colt has been charged with four counts of murder for the shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. He will be tried as an adult.

Marcee Gray later expressed her deep sorrow for the tragedy, stating, “I am so, so sorry and cannot fathom the pain and suffering they are going through right now,” in a text to the Washington Post.

According to Gray’s sister, Annie Brown, Marcee called the school about an “extreme emergency” involving Colt before the shooting began. The call was placed at 9:50 a.m., and the shooting was reported to police around 10:20 a.m.

Marcee Gray confirmed the call but did not specify what prompted it, stating only that she had shared the details with law enforcement.

The Barrow County School District has not commented, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation referred inquiries to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. CNN has reached out to both for further details.

Colt Gray is accused of killing two teachers and two students while injuring nine others. He was apprehended shortly after the shooting.

Colt’s father, Colin Gray, has also been arrested and faces charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children for allegedly purchasing the AR-15 style weapon used in the shooting.
