This was confirmed by his club, Al Nassr, in an official statement.
According to the Saudi Pro League side, the Portuguese star will be absent from Al Nassr’s Asian Champions League opener against Iraq’s Al Shorta this week.
The statement read: “Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t feeling well today and was diagnosed with a viral infection. The team’s doctor has advised that he rest and remain at home.”
As a result, Ronaldo will not be traveling with the squad to Iraq. “We wish a speedy recovery to our captain,” the club added.
Ronaldo has yet to secure a major trophy with Al-Nassr since joining the Saudi club. The Asian Champions League is now in its first edition under the new “Elite” format, replacing the AFC Champions League as Asia’s premier club competition.
