Rapper 50 Cent has decided to withdraw the defamation lawsuit he filed against his former partner, Daphne Joy. The 49-year-old artist and actor has submitted a legal request to have the case dismissed, according to TMZ on September 10.
The lawsuit, filed in May, was a response to Joy’s accusations that 50 Cent had raped and physically abused her. These claims were made in an Instagram post after the rapper referred to Joy as a “sex worker” in March, amidst allegations against the rap mogul Diddy.
The request to dismiss the lawsuit now awaits approval from the judge overseeing the case, though approval is expected.
50 Cent, who shares a 12-year-old son named Sire with Joy, launched the lawsuit following Joy’s allegations and claims that he had been an absentee father.
At the time, 50 Cent denied the allegations in a statement. According to sources, Joy later deleted her post to mend relations with the rapper for the sake of their son, while 50 Cent also removed his posts about her.
The couple had been involved in a public dispute after music producer Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones accused Joy of being a sex worker in a lawsuit against Diddy. Joy has denied these claims, labeling them as “character assassination.”
The allegations came to light as 50 Cent sought sole custody of their son. In a dramatic Instagram post, Joy accused 50 Cent of rape and abuse, expressing her frustration and disappointment.
50 Cent’s representative responded, denying the allegations and emphasizing that the rapper’s focus was on ensuring a safe environment for his son. Despite referring to Sire as “twelve” in the statement, the child was 11 at the time.
In a reply on Instagram, 50 Cent addressed Joy, mentioning their past and her subsequent financial support from Diddy, while referencing the ongoing conflict.
