José Andrés, a renowned celebrity chef, was the first recipient of a grant from Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation for his nonprofit, World Central Kitchen, which provides meals to communities affected by natural disasters.
In a statement about his new role, Andrés expressed his excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to join the Earthshot Prize Council to help showcase the changemakers pushing the boundaries of innovation and ingenuity around the world. I’ve seen firsthand the power of food to heal and unite communities, both in good times and hard times.
“Food is a powerful tool for addressing some of the planet’s most pressing challenges, and I believe we must transform our food systems to be more sustainable and equitable. Earthshot solutions are leading this movement.”
Andrés previously praised Harry and Meghan in the 2020-2022 Archewell Impact Report, stating, “Harry and Meghan, my dear friends, you bring hope to every community you touch, always with a smile, always with empathy. Through your partnership with World Central Kitchen, a simple hot meal can show people in need how much we care.”
This collaboration comes shortly after Prince William and Prince Harry were seen together at their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ funeral at St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, Norfolk. The brothers were seated separately during the service, marking their first public appearance together since the King’s coronation in May 2023.
Prince Harry is expected to travel to New York soon for the General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week, which runs from September 22 to 29. His visit coincides with the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in New York on September 24, though HELLO! reports that Prince William will not be attending the event.
