Prince Harry has surfaced in his first public appearance since his covert trip to the United Kingdom, where he attended a family funeral with his estranged brother, Prince William.
The Duke of Sussex featured in a new video promoting the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014. The video, released on Thursday, focuses on a Canadian Invictus competitor and explores the theme: “What is a life-changing event?” It also includes appearances by competitors from Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
In the video, Harry remarked, “Sport has the ability to heal, to change lives, and to save lives. For many of these competitors, reaching the start line has been one of the toughest moments of their lives. But at the Games, their lives are transformed. Witnessing these magical moments and seeing sport as the catalyst for change is very special for all of us.”
The Invictus Games support the rehabilitation of injured and ill military personnel and veterans worldwide by challenging them to compete in sports akin to the Paralympics. The inaugural Games were held in London, with subsequent events taking place in Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, The Hague, and Düsseldorf.
Harry’s video appearance is his first since his discreet visit to the UK for the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, on August 28. Lord Fellowes was the brother-in-law of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
Although the brothers appeared together, reports suggest that tensions between them remain unresolved, and they reportedly sat apart during the service. This visit marked their first meeting since the coronation of their father, King Charles, in May 2023.
During his UK visit, Harry stayed with his mother’s family at Althorp, a site of personal significance as it houses his mother’s burial site.
