A passenger flight en route to the UK was compelled to make an emergency landing in Russia after experiencing ‘technical problems.’
The Air India Boeing 787-800, traveling from New Delhi to Birmingham, made the precautionary landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport yesterday evening.
The aircraft landed safely, with all 258 passengers and 17 crew members unharmed. Airport officials reported that everyone received “full assistance.”
According to Mail Online, the plane had been cruising at 40,000 feet for about six hours when the pilots noticed a potential technical issue and requested an emergency landing while over Moscow.
After a series of checks, the plane was deemed safe and continued its journey, arriving in Birmingham late last night.
The airport’s statement regarding the unscheduled landing read: “The aircraft’s crew requested an unscheduled landing at Sheremetyevo Airport due to technical problems.
“Airport services quickly responded to the crew’s request and prepared to receive the aircraft according to the emergency protocol. The foreign crew received full support from Russian airport staff and specialists in line with international conventions.”
