Parents in Clovis, California are furious after young girls were cited on the first day of school for ‘violating’ the district’s strict dress code by wearing popular Lululemon shorts.
Schools officials at Alta Sierra Intermediate school were accused of ‘body-shaming’ and ‘gawking’ at girls’ legs as they patrolled the hallways, pulling students out of class who were deemed to have fallen short of the five-inch inseam requirement.

The trendy athletic shorts from Lululemon, a favorite among teenage girls, typically have an inseam of just 3-4 inches.
‘We’ve heard horror stories of admin walking around, bending over and staring and gawking at the girls and their legs,’ parent Brenna Hughes told the Sacramento Bee.
‘The girls feel very uncomfortable. They were embarrassed and called out in front of their friends. For what? For wearing normal clothes?’ added Hughes, who represents a group of parents who’ve expressed concerns about Alta Sierra’s handling of the dress code policy.
Hughes has even launched a Change.org petition calling for the ‘immediate amendment to the Clovis Unified School District’s dress code policy, particularly regarding the current 5-inch inseam shorts requirement for girls.’
‘The enforcement of such a requirement unfairly and disproportionately impacts our young girls compared to their male counterparts due to the scarcity of such clothing in stores.
‘For our sons, tailored shorts that fit the 5-inch inseam requirements are easily accessible, but for our daughters, finding these shorts is a nearly impossible task,’ she wrote.
