Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on new charges by a Manhattan grand jury, as announced by prosecutors during a hearing on Thursday, September 12.
Prosecutor Nicole Blumberg confirmed in court, “The grand jury has indicted Mr. Weinstein.”
However, the specific details of the indictment will remain sealed until Weinstein’s arraignment. The charges may involve s*xual assault allegations from three women, according to prosecutors at a previous hearing.
Weinstein did not attend the hearing due to medical reasons; he had recently undergone a heart procedure and was not cleared to attend.
The grand jury began reviewing the case in mid-August. While the names of the accusers have not been disclosed, their allegations were described at the earlier hearing.
One accusation involves an assault at a Manhattan residential building between 2005 and 2006, another alleges an assault at a Tribeca hotel in May 2016, and the third involves an incident at the Tribeca Grand Hotel.
Prosecutors have stated that these new charges are separate from those brought by Jessica Mann and Mimi Haley, whose cases are set for retrial in November. While prosecutors have expressed interest in combining the cases, Weinstein’s defense team opposes this.
Weinstein, currently serving a 16-year sentence for a 2022 conviction in Los Angeles for s*xual assault, is appealing that conviction.
In 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison for first-degree criminal s*xual act and third-degree r*pe, but his conviction was overturned on appeal in April.
