Kebbi State: Hippopotamus Fatally Attacks Guard Of Emir Of Yauri

A mother hippopotamus nursing her baby has fatally attacked Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at an orchard owned by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, in Kebbi State.

Reports indicate that the 60-year-old Maigadi was fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village when he was attacked by the hippopotamus on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

It is believed that the animal may have perceived Maigadi as a threat to her baby, prompting the attack in self-defense.

The incident has been confirmed by Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, as well as by the Kebbi State Government.

“Maigadi has been buried according to Islamic rites in Yauri after a funeral prayer,” Shu’aibu stated.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris also expressed condolences to the Yauri Emirate and the family of the deceased in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris.

The governor prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
